Benedict Solution

Product Code : SCL-777/133

Benedict Solution (Product Code: SCL-777/133) is a blue, alkaline copper(II) reagent used to detect reducing sugars in food tests and carbohydrate practicals in school and college laboratories. Biology and chemistry teachers keep this Benedict solution for school labs in India because a heated sample shifts from blue to green, yellow, orange or brick red with the amount of sugar; it comes ready to use in a 500 ml bottle, listed as analytical reagent with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India.

What Is Benedict Solution Used For?

Students add a small volume of the sample solution to the reagent in a test tube and stand the tube in a boiling laboratory water bath for a few minutes. If a reducing sugar such as glucose, fructose, maltose or lactose is present, the blue colour gives way to green, yellow, orange and finally a brick-red precipitate, so the final colour gives a rough idea of the amount. Sucrose and starch do not react directly; boiling them first with dilute acid and neutralising the mixture breaks them into reducing sugars, which then test positive.

Always run two controls alongside the unknowns: one tube with water for the unchanged blue, and one with a glucose solution for a clear positive. Heating in a water bath rather than directly over a flame prevents the liquid spurting from the tube. The solution contains a copper salt, so keep it off skin and out of eyes, cap the bottle after each class and store it away from direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who supplies Benedict Solution SCL-777/133?
Benedict Solution (SCL-777/133) is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, trading as ScienceLab, Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources the reagent for school and college food-test practicals and ships each 500 ml bottle with an MSDS to buyers in India and international markets.

Does Benedict Solution need to be prepared before use?
No preparation from solids is needed, because Benedict Solution is supplied ready-made in a 500 ml bottle. Pour a working quantity for each class, follow your lab manual for the volumes of sample and reagent, and keep the stock bottle capped.

Which sugars give a positive Benedict test?
Reducing sugars such as glucose, fructose, maltose and lactose give a positive result with Benedict Solution, changing it from blue towards brick red. Sucrose and starch test negative unless they are first hydrolysed by boiling with dilute acid and then neutralised.

How is Benedict Solution different from Fehling solution?
Benedict Solution is a single, ready-to-use solution, while Fehling solution is kept as two separate solutions that are mixed just before use; see Fehling A Solution. Both detect reducing sugars, but Benedict needs no mixing step in class.

Can Benedict Solution measure the exact amount of sugar?
Only roughly. Benedict Solution gives a semi-quantitative result: the colour range from green to brick red lets students compare samples, but an exact sugar value needs a quantitative method such as a titration or an instrumental measurement.

What is the shelf life of Benedict Solution?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Keep Benedict Solution capped and out of sunlight, and check that it is still a clear blue before each class.

Can you supply several bottles of Benedict Solution for a school group or export?
Yes. Benedict Solution is supplied to schools, colleges and dealers in India and international markets. Share the number of 500 ml bottles and delivery points through our contact page to receive a single quotation.

Benzaldehyde

Product Code : SCL-779/134

Benzaldehyde (Product Code: SCL-779/134) is the simplest aromatic aldehyde, an analytical reagent liquid used for aldehyde functional-group tests and organic preparations in senior secondary and college chemistry laboratories. Recognisable by its bitter-almond smell, it lets teachers show how an aldehyde on a benzene ring behaves differently from aliphatic aldehydes; it comes in a 500 ml bottle with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, a lab chemicals supplier for schools and colleges.

Shelf lifeShelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Product codeSCL-779/134
Supplied byJain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India

What Is Benzaldehyde Used For?

A few drops are enough for each test. Warmed with Tollens' reagent in a water bath, benzaldehyde deposits a silver mirror; with Brady's DNP reagent it gives an orange precipitate; and with Schiff's reagent it turns pink. Fehling and Benedict tests, by contrast, are generally negative for aromatic aldehydes, which gives students a clear way to tell benzaldehyde apart from aliphatic aldehydes. In the Cannizzaro reaction, shaking it with concentrated alkali produces benzyl alcohol and a benzoate salt, because the molecule has no hydrogen next to the aldehyde group.

Benzaldehyde slowly oxidises in air to benzoic acid, which can appear as white crystals around the cap. Keep the bottle tightly closed, out of light and in a cool place, and pour only what the class needs. Its vapour is harmful in quantity, so dispense it in a fume cupboard or, in school labs without one, near an open window with good airflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who supplies Benzaldehyde SCL-779/134?
Benzaldehyde (SCL-779/134) is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, trading as ScienceLab, Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources this aromatic aldehyde for school and college organic practicals and dispatches each 500 ml bottle with an MSDS to buyers in India and international markets.

What volume and grade of benzaldehyde is supplied?
Benzaldehyde is supplied in a 500 ml bottle listed as analytical reagent grade, with an MSDS. Because each functional-group test needs only a few drops, one bottle serves many student tests; larger quantities are mainly needed for preparative work such as the Cannizzaro reaction.

Why are there white crystals near the benzaldehyde cap?
The white crystals are usually benzoic acid, formed as benzaldehyde reacts slowly with air. Closing the bottle promptly after each use, storing it away from light and keeping it cool all slow this oxidation and keep the liquid suitable for tests.

Does benzaldehyde give a positive Fehling test?
Generally not. Benzaldehyde, like other aromatic aldehydes, does not usually reduce Fehling solution, so use Tollens' reagent or Brady's DNP reagent to show its aldehyde group. The contrast with aliphatic aldehydes is itself a useful teaching point in identification practicals.

Is it safe to smell benzaldehyde?
Do not sniff benzaldehyde from the bottle. If the teacher asks for the smell to be noted, waft the vapour gently towards you from a test tube containing a few drops, and avoid breathing it in quantity or in a poorly ventilated room.

What is the shelf life of Benzaldehyde?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Benzaldehyde oxidises in air, so a tightly closed bottle kept cool and dark stays in better condition than one opened often.

Can benzaldehyde be shipped for export orders?
Export shipping arrangements for Benzaldehyde, an organic liquid, depend on the destination and quantity. Send those details through our contact page, and we will confirm the available options before you place the order.

Bleaching Powder

Product Code : SCL-785/137

Bleaching Powder (Product Code: SCL-785/137) is a chlorine-releasing calcium compound used to prepare small amounts of chlorine and to demonstrate bleaching and water disinfection in school and college chemistry laboratories. It features in the secondary-school topic on salts of everyday importance and in college available-chlorine titrations, and comes as a 500 gm pack of analytical reagent grade with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, to schools stocking chemistry lab equipment in India.

Shelf lifeShelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Product codeSCL-785/137
Supplied byJain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India

What Is Bleaching Powder Used For?

To prepare chlorine, a small amount is placed in a flask fitted with a dropping funnel and delivery tube, and dilute hydrochloric acid is added slowly inside a fume cupboard. Because chlorine is heavier than air, it is collected in gas jars by upward displacement using standard gas collection apparatus. Students then see moist blue litmus turn red and then lose its colour, and a coloured petal or cloth strip fade, which shows the bleaching action of chlorine in the presence of moisture.

For a disinfection demonstration, a pinch stirred into a large volume of water shows how chlorine compounds treat drinking-water supplies. Colleges go further and find the available chlorine by adding potassium iodide and acid, then titrating the liberated iodine with sodium thiosulphate. Bleaching powder is corrosive and loses chlorine when exposed to air and damp, so keep it tightly closed in a cool, dry place. Never store or mix it with acids or ammonia, which release harmful gases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who supplies Bleaching Powder SCL-785/137?
Bleaching Powder (SCL-785/137) is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, trading as ScienceLab, Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources this analytical reagent grade chemical for chemistry practicals and supplies it with an MSDS to institutions and dealers in India and international markets.

How much bleaching powder is in a pack?
Each pack of Bleaching Powder contains 500 gm, listed as analytical reagent grade and supplied with an MSDS. Small portions are enough for chlorine preparation and bleaching demonstrations, so reseal the pack after every use to preserve its active chlorine.

Why does bleaching powder smell of chlorine?
Bleaching Powder slowly gives off chlorine, especially in moist air, so a strong smell when the pack is opened is normal. Keep the lid closed between uses so that the active chlorine is not lost and the laboratory air stays comfortable.

What is the shelf life of Bleaching Powder?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Bleaching Powder loses strength sooner if left open or damp, so colleges needing an exact figure should measure available chlorine before use.

Can bleaching powder be stored next to acids?
No. Bleaching Powder must be stored away from acids and ammonia, because contact releases chlorine or other harmful gases. Keep it on a separate shelf of the chemical store, in its closed container, and label it clearly as an oxidising substance.

Is water from the bleaching powder demonstration safe to drink?
No. The Bleaching Powder disinfection demonstration shows the principle only, and real drinking-water treatment needs controlled dosing and testing. Discard the demonstration water after the lesson and explain to students how treatment plants measure the chlorine they add.

Do you ship bleaching powder in bulk or overseas?
Bleaching Powder is supplied to schools, colleges and dealers in India and international markets. As an oxidising chemical, its transport arrangements are confirmed for each order, so send the quantity and destination through our contact page.

Blue Litmus Solution

Product Code : SCL-787/138

Blue Litmus Solution (Product Code: SCL-787/138) is the liquid form of the litmus acid-base indicator, used to identify acidic solutions in school and college science laboratories. Added to a test liquid it turns red in acids and stays blue in neutral or basic solutions, which makes it a core part of any acid base indicator kit; it is listed in a 125 gm pack, as analytical reagent grade with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India.

Specifications

Shelf lifeShelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Product codeSCL-787/138
Supplied byJain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India

What Is Blue Litmus Solution Used For?

Pupils place small samples of household and laboratory liquids, such as lemon juice, vinegar, soap solution, dilute hydrochloric acid and tap water, in a row of test tubes or a spotting tile and add a few drops of the solution to each. The acids turn red at once, while the others stay blue; testing the blue results again with red litmus then separates bases from neutral liquids. The same solution shows the bleaching effect of chlorine water, which first reddens and then removes the colour.

Pour a working quantity into labelled dropper bottles for each bench rather than passing the stock bottle around, and never return unused solution to it. Keep the stock tightly closed and away from bottles of concentrated acid, whose fumes can turn it red over time. Many teachers stock it alongside litmus paper and pH indicator paper so pupils can compare a simple acid or base answer with a full pH reading.

Calcium Oxide (Powder) Purified

Product Code : SCL-795/142

Calcium Oxide (Powder) Purified (Product Code: SCL-795/142) is quicklime in powder form, used to demonstrate the exothermic reaction of a metal oxide with water and to prepare lime water in school and college chemistry laboratories. Science teachers also use it to dry ammonia gas in senior practicals; it is listed in a 500 mg pack as an analytical reagent with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, a chemistry consumables supplier for schools and colleges.

Shelf lifeShelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Product codeSCL-795/142
Supplied byJain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India

What Is Calcium Oxide Powder Used For?

In the textbook activity, a small amount of quicklime is placed in a beaker and water is added slowly. The mixture hisses, the beaker becomes noticeably warm and the powder turns into slaked lime, showing a combination reaction that releases heat. Recording the water temperature before and after with a thermometer turns it into a simple calorimeter experiment. Once the milky suspension settles and is filtered, the clear filtrate is lime water, which turns milky when carbon dioxide is bubbled through it.

Quicklime also dries ammonia gas, which reacts with common drying agents such as concentrated sulphuric acid and calcium chloride. It is caustic, so wear goggles, avoid skin contact and add water in small portions rather than tipping water onto a heap of powder. In open air it slowly absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide and loses its reactivity, so reseal the pack straight after taking out the amount needed.

Calcium Carbonate

Product Code : JSS-799/144

Calcium Carbonate (Product Code: JSS-799/144) is an analytical reagent carbonate salt used to prepare carbon dioxide and to study acid-carbonate reactions, rates of reaction and thermal decomposition in school and college chemistry laboratories. The same compound that makes up limestone, chalk and marble, it is a basic stock item on school chemistry lab equipment lists in India and comes in a 500 gm pack with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India.

What Is Calcium Carbonate Used For?

To prepare carbon dioxide, calcium carbonate is placed in a flask fitted with a thistle funnel and delivery tube, and dilute hydrochloric acid is poured in a little at a time. The gas is collected in gas jars by upward displacement of air and identified by turning lime water milky and putting out a burning splint. The same reaction illustrates the general rule that an acid and a metal carbonate give a salt, water and carbon dioxide.

For a rate-of-reaction investigation, a flask of acid and carbonate stands on a digital weighing balance and the loss in mass is recorded as carbon dioxide escapes, repeated at different acid concentrations or temperatures. Heating a small sample strongly in a hard-glass tube shows thermal decomposition to calcium oxide. The reaction with acid froths, so use a flask with room to spare and add acid slowly. The salt itself is low-hazard, but keep the dust out of eyes and store the pack dry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who supplies Calcium Carbonate JSS-799/144?
Calcium Carbonate (JSS-799/144) is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, trading as ScienceLab, Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources this analytical reagent salt for school and college practicals and supplies it with an MSDS to institutions and dealers in India and international markets.

How much does one pack of Calcium Carbonate contain?
One pack of Calcium Carbonate contains 500 gm of the salt, listed as analytical reagent grade and supplied with an MSDS. Schools running carbon dioxide preparation with several practical groups can request more than one pack in a single enquiry.

Is the calcium carbonate powder or chips?
The listing for Calcium Carbonate does not state the physical form. Chips give a steadier gas flow for carbon dioxide preparation, while powder reacts faster, so confirm which you need through our contact page before ordering.

Why does the flask froth over with calcium carbonate and acid?
Calcium Carbonate releases carbon dioxide quickly when it meets acid, especially if the material is fine or the acid is strong. Add the acid in small portions and use a larger flask so that the froth stays inside the apparatus.

Can calcium carbonate be used to show how antacids work?
Yes. Calcium Carbonate works well as a laboratory demonstration of an acid being neutralised by a carbonate, as happens with antacid tablets. It is a laboratory reagent, not a medicine, so it must not be tasted or swallowed during the lesson.

What is the shelf life of Calcium Carbonate?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Store Calcium Carbonate in a closed container in a dry cupboard, with its MSDS kept alongside your chemical records.

Calcium Chloride Fused

Product Code : SCL-801/145

Calcium Chloride Fused (Product Code: SCL-801/145) is anhydrous calcium chloride, made by melting the hydrated crystals to drive off their water, used as a drying agent in desiccators, guard tubes and gas-drying towers in chemistry laboratories. Because it pulls water vapour strongly from its surroundings, school, college and research labs keep it in constant use; it comes in a 500 gm pack of analytical reagent grade with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, a lab chemicals supplier in India.

Specifications

Shelf lifeShelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Product codeSCL-801/145
Supplied byJain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India

What Is Fused Calcium Chloride Used For?

In a desiccator, the lower compartment is filled with fused calcium chloride, and crucibles or weighed samples placed on the plate above cool without taking up moisture before they are weighed. That matters in experiments such as finding the water of crystallisation of a salt. For guard tubes, pieces of the salt are packed loosely between cotton-wool plugs in a calcium chloride tube of borosilicate glassware and fitted to the upper end of a condenser or flask, so that air entering the apparatus is dried first. Gases such as oxygen, hydrogen and carbon dioxide can be dried by passing them through a U-tube or absorption tower filled with it.

It should not be used to dry ammonia, alcohols or amines, because it combines with them; quicklime is the usual choice for ammonia. When the charge turns damp, sticky or starts to liquefy, it has reached its capacity and should be replaced. Dissolving it in water releases heat and the dust irritates eyes, so use a dry spatula and goggles, and keep the container tightly sealed between uses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who supplies Calcium Chloride Fused SCL-801/145?
Calcium Chloride Fused (SCL-801/145) is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, trading as ScienceLab, Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources this drying agent for teaching and research laboratories and supplies it with an MSDS to buyers in India and international markets.

What does fused mean in Calcium Chloride Fused?
In Calcium Chloride Fused, the word fused means the salt has been melted to remove its water of crystallisation, leaving anhydrous calcium chloride that absorbs moisture strongly. That is why it is used for drying rather than for making up solutions of known strength.

How much Calcium Chloride Fused is in one pack?
One pack of Calcium Chloride Fused contains 500 gm, listed as analytical reagent grade and supplied with an MSDS. Laboratories that recharge several desiccators and guard tubes regularly can ask for more than one pack in the same quotation.

Can Calcium Chloride Fused dry ammonia gas?
No. Calcium Chloride Fused combines with ammonia, so it is unsuitable for drying that gas; quicklime is the usual choice. It also reacts with alcohols and amines, so choose a different drying agent for those compounds as well.

How can I tell when Calcium Chloride Fused needs replacing?
Replace Calcium Chloride Fused when the pieces look wet, stick together or begin to dissolve, because the drying capacity is then used up. Regular checks of desiccators and guard tubes keep weighed samples and moisture-sensitive reactions dry.

What is the shelf life of Calcium Chloride Fused?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Keep unopened Calcium Chloride Fused sealed in a dry place and reseal an opened container quickly each time.

Is Calcium Chloride Fused the same as the earlier Calcium Choride Fused listing?
Yes. Calcium Chloride Fused (SCL-801/145) is the same product that earlier appeared as Calcium Choride Fused; only the spelling of the name has been corrected. The product code, pack size and web address of this page stay unchanged.

Carbon Disulphide

Product Code : SCL-803/146

Carbon Disulphide (Product Code: SCL-803/146) is a highly volatile, flammable non-polar solvent used to dissolve sulphur, iodine, waxes and fats and to show halogen colours in layer tests in school, college and testing laboratories. Chemistry teachers and laboratory staff reach for this analytical reagent liquid, supplied in a 500 ml pack with an MSDS, when water will not dissolve the substance under study. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, a laboratory chemicals supplier for teaching and testing labs.

Product codeSCL-803/146
Supplied byJain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India

What Is Carbon Disulphide Used For?

A classic demonstration of allotropy uses carbon disulphide to dissolve roll sulphur; as the solution evaporates slowly in a covered dish, rhombic sulphur crystals form for students to observe. In qualitative inorganic analysis it can serve as the organic layer in the test for bromide and iodide ions: after an oxidising agent releases the halogen, the dense solvent layer picks up a brown or violet colour that identifies the ion. It is also handy for solubility comparisons that show why like dissolves like.

Handle it only in small volumes and preferably inside a chemical fume cupboard. Its vapour can ignite on contact with hot surfaces, not just open flames, so keep burners, hot plates and heated water baths well away while the bottle is open. Close the cap straight after dispensing, store the pack in a cool, ventilated place and follow the disposal guidance in the MSDS for residues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who supplies Carbon Disulphide SCL-803/146?
Carbon Disulphide (SCL-803/146) is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, trading as ScienceLab, Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources this analytical reagent solvent for teaching and testing laboratories and supplies it with an MSDS to buyers in India and international markets.

How much carbon disulphide is in one pack?
Each pack of Carbon Disulphide holds 500 ml of analytical reagent grade liquid. Because the solvent is used in small volumes for demonstrations and layer tests, order only the number of packs your flammable-liquid store can hold safely.

Does Carbon Disulphide come with safety information?
Yes. Carbon Disulphide is supplied with an MSDS that sets out its hazards, storage, first aid and disposal. Staff should read it before the pack is opened and keep it where anyone dispensing the solvent can consult it quickly.

What is the shelf life of Carbon Disulphide?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Keep Carbon Disulphide tightly closed in a cool, ventilated store, away from heat sources and oxidising agents.

Can students use carbon disulphide on an open bench?
Carbon Disulphide is better handled by, or under the direct supervision of, a teacher in a fume cupboard or a very well-ventilated area. Keep flames and hot surfaces away, and dispense only the small volume each test requires.

Is a certificate of analysis available for Carbon Disulphide?
The listing confirms that Carbon Disulphide is analytical reagent grade and supplied with an MSDS. If your laboratory needs batch-specific analysis documents, please discuss this with us through the contact page before ordering.

Can Carbon Disulphide be shipped outside India?
Carbon Disulphide can be quoted for international markets, but as a flammable liquid it must travel under dangerous-goods rules. Share your destination and quantity, and we will advise on the shipping options available for that order.
