What Is the Baby/Child Length-Height Board Used For?
Children under two are measured lying down: the board is opened flat, the head is held gently against the fixed headpiece, the knees are pressed straight and the sliding wedge is brought firmly against both heels. From two years the board is stood upright, its adjustable feet are turned until it stands steady on the floor, and the child stands barefoot against it while the slide comes down to the top of the head. Locking the slide before lifting the child away lets the measurer read calmly at the marked arrow.
Because it is sized only for children, it is lighter to carry than a full-range board, which matters on long outreach days. Programmes putting together kits for school or anganwadi health rounds often combine it with a child MUAC tape and a hanging scale.
