What Is the CO2 Incubator Used For?

Most mammalian cell cultures are kept near body temperature in a humid, CO2-enriched atmosphere, because their bicarbonate-buffered media hold a stable pH only when carbon dioxide is present. The incubator provides that environment for cell lines, primary cultures and tissue explants, and for capnophilic bacteria that grow better with extra CO2. It serves biotechnology, pharmaceutical microbiology and life-science research laboratories alike.

Keep the water reservoir filled so humidity stays high and culture media do not evaporate. The inner glass door lets staff check cultures without opening the chamber fully, and converting to six half-size shelves with six mini glass doors means each opening disturbs only a small section. Run the moist-heat disinfection cycle at 90 °C periodically, with cultures removed, to keep contamination under control.

What to Specify When Ordering

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the capacity of the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator?
The Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator has a 240 litre interior measuring 533 x 607 x 670 mm (D x W x H). It comes with 3 shelves of 503 x 554 mm as standard and takes a maximum of 12 shelves.

What CO2 and temperature settings does the CO2 Incubator offer?
The Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator sets CO2 from 0 to 20% with ±0.1% deviation and temperature from ambient +5 to 50 °C using a PT1000 sensor. Ask us for the temperature control deviation of the model quoted.

How does the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator keep humidity high?
The Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator uses a 3 litre water reservoir inside the chamber, and humidity is listed at 95% or above. Keeping the reservoir filled reduces evaporation from culture media during long incubations.

How is the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator disinfected?
The Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator has a moist-heat disinfection programme that holds 90 °C for 9 hours, with the complete disinfection taking about 25 hours. Remove all cultures before starting the cycle.

What power and space does the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator need?
The Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator runs on 220 V ±10% / 50 Hz as standard, with 110 V / 60 Hz optional, and is rated at 735 W. It measures 820 x 780 x 944 mm outside and weighs 98 kg net.

Is a CO2 cylinder included with the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator?
A CO2 cylinder and regulator are not listed as included with the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator. Mention your gas-supply arrangements when you enquire through the contact page, and we will advise on what to add.

Who supplies the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Incubator?
