What Is the Block Heater Used For?
In practical classes the block heater holds microtubes or test tubes at a steady temperature for enzyme experiments, incubation steps in DNA extraction activities, denaturing samples before gel work, and warming reagents in tubes for food and biochemical tests. Because there is no water, nothing evaporates, tubes do not float or tip, and there is no risk of water getting under caps; the unit is simply switched on, set on the dial and allowed to reach temperature.
Fit the block that matches your tubes so that each tube is in close contact with the aluminium: one full-size block for 10 to 25 mm tubes or 50 ml tubes, or two smaller blocks for 0.2 to 2.0 ml microtubes. For temperature-sensitive work, check the reading with a thermometer placed in a tube of water in the block. Use the supplied block extraction tool to change hot blocks rather than fingers.
