Whatman's Filter Paper No 1

Product Code : SCL303/051

Whatman's Filter Paper No 1 (Product Code: SCL303/051) is a rectangular cellulose filter paper used for general-purpose qualitative filtration in student, college and industrial laboratories. Its smooth surface and close texture retain medium-fine precipitates at a relatively slow filtration speed, which suits less critical routine analysis. As a lab consumables supplier in India, Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, supplies it alongside funnels, flasks and other filtration items.

What Is the No 1 Filter Paper Used For?

Cut or fold a piece of the sheet into a cone that sits just below the rim of your funnel, wet it with a little distilled water so it clings to the glass, and pour the mixture down a glass rod so that it never rises above the paper edge. In biology practicals this is how students clear a leaf extract after grinding, separate soil particles from a soil-water suspension before testing the filtrate, or remove debris from plant or food extracts before chemical tests. Applications outside the classroom range from the filtration of beverages to the purification of electroplating baths.

Because the texture is close and the filtration relatively slow, the paper holds back fairly fine precipitates, which is why it works for routine qualitative separations. Allow time for the liquid to pass through and avoid poking the paper to hurry it. Strips of filter paper are also used in simple school chromatography demonstrations, although dedicated chromatography paper gives more consistent results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Whatman's Filter Paper No 1 for qualitative or quantitative work?
Whatman's Filter Paper No 1 is for qualitative work. It is described as a general qualitative filter for less critical routine analysis, so it is not intended for ash-sensitive gravimetric determinations that need a quantitative grade.

How fine a precipitate does this filter paper hold back?
This filter paper retains medium-fine precipitates. Its smooth surface and close texture trap fairly small particles, which makes it suitable for routine separations in student practicals and for everyday checks in industrial laboratories.

Why is filtration through No 1 filter paper slow?
Filtration through this No 1 filter paper is relatively slow because the same close texture that traps medium-fine particles also restricts the flow. Plan enough time for each filtration and avoid poking the paper, which can tear it.

What sheet size and pack count will I receive?
The filter paper is supplied in rectangular sheets; sheet size, pack count and packaging are not stated in our listing and are confirmed on your quotation. Please state your requirement on our contact page.

How should filter paper be stored?
Store the filter paper flat in its closed pack, in a dry place away from chemical fumes and dust. This keeps the cellulose sheets clean and stops them absorbing moisture before they are used.

Who supplies Whatman's Filter Paper No 1 (SCL303/051)?
Whatman's Filter Paper No 1 is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, to schools, colleges, industrial laboratories and distributors. Quote the code SCL303/051 when you ask for pricing so the correct paper is identified.

Can you supply bulk quantities of this filter paper?
Yes, the filter paper can be quoted in bulk for schools, colleges, industrial labs and distributors in India and international markets. Share the quantity and delivery location, and we will confirm packing on the quotation.
