Parenchyma

Product Code : SCL478/0156

Parenchyma (Product Code: SCL478/0156) is a prepared microscope slide of parenchyma, the most common simple permanent tissue in plants, used to introduce plant histology in school and college labs. It shows students the living, thin-walled cells that make up most of the soft parts of a plant and is usually the first tissue slide in the series, mounted on clear borosilicate glass in a white plastic box. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, as part of its biology lab equipment for schools.

What Is the Parenchyma Slide Used For?

Parenchyma cells are roughly isodiametric, have thin cellulose walls and often leave small intercellular spaces between them. Teachers use this slide to introduce those three features before moving on to specialised tissues, and to explain that parenchyma forms the cortex, pith and much of the leaf mesophyll, where it stores food, carries out photosynthesis or, in aquatic plants, holds air.

In a school biology lab the parenchyma slide is normally examined first, followed by collenchyma and sclerenchyma, so students can compare wall thickness step by step. Ask learners to sketch a small group of cells at high power and label the cell wall, intercellular space and cell contents. Keep the slide in its box between classes and handle it only by the edges.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should students look for on the Parenchyma slide?
On the Parenchyma slide, students look for thin-walled, rounded or many-sided cells with small spaces between them. Depending on the preparation, nuclei or large vacuoles may also be visible, and these features are what they label in their drawings.

How does parenchyma differ from collenchyma and sclerenchyma?
Parenchyma, as seen on the Parenchyma slide, has thin, even walls; collenchyma has walls thickened at the corners; sclerenchyma has uniformly thick, lignified walls and its mature cells are dead. Viewing the three slides in order makes the comparison clear.

Which plant or organ is the tissue on the Parenchyma slide taken from?
Our listing for the Parenchyma slide does not state the source plant or organ. If your syllabus requires a specific source, please ask through our contact page before ordering, and we will tell you what we can confirm.

Can students also make their own parenchyma mounts?
Yes. Thin sections of soft storage tissue can be mounted on plain slides and stained, for example with methylene blue, and the prepared Parenchyma slide then serves as the reference against which students check their own mounts.

Who supplies the Parenchyma slide?
The Parenchyma slide is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Private Limited, trading as ScienceLab from Ambala, Haryana, India. Its GSTIN and LEI for vendor registration appear in the Supplier section above, and further documents can be requested with the quotation.

Do you take bulk orders for the Parenchyma slide?
Yes. We quote bulk quantities of the Parenchyma slide for schools, colleges and distributors in India and international markets. Mention the product code SCL478/0156, the quantity and whether you also need the collenchyma and sclerenchyma slides.
