Lead Chloride (Product Code: SCI-590/256) is an analytical reagent grade lead(II) chloride (PbCl2) used to demonstrate the solubility behaviour and reactions of lead ions in college and senior school chemistry laboratories. It is packed as 100 g with an MSDS, and because lead compounds are toxic it should be handled by trained staff or under close supervision. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India.

Lead chloride is the classic example of a salt whose solubility rises sharply with temperature: it dissolves only slightly in cold water but much more in boiling water, and on cooling it separates again as fine white needle-shaped crystals. This is the basis of the Group I step in salt analysis, where lead is precipitated as the chloride with dilute hydrochloric acid and then separated from silver chloride by extracting with hot water.
The hot extract is then tested with potassium chromate, which gives yellow lead chromate, and with potassium iodide, which gives bright yellow lead iodide. Lead compounds are toxic if swallowed or inhaled and harmful to the environment, so wear gloves and goggles, avoid raising dust, wash hands after use and collect residues for proper disposal rather than pouring them down the sink.
ScienceLab, the trading name of Jain Scientific Equipments Private Limited in Ambala, supplies Lead Chloride to colleges, schools and laboratory dealers that need a ready lead salt for qualitative analysis. Questions about packing or the safety sheet for this hazardous reagent can be raised before ordering and are answered directly by the supplier. See the ScienceLab company profile.
Reagents and protective items for lead ion tests with lead chloride:
Other reagents and apparatus are in Laboratory Equipment.
Is Lead Chloride soluble in water?
Lead Chloride is only slightly soluble in cold water but dissolves far more in boiling water. This temperature-dependent solubility is why it is used to separate lead from silver in Group I salt analysis and to grow needle-like crystals on cooling.
Which tests confirm lead in a Lead Chloride solution?
A hot water extract of Lead Chloride gives a yellow precipitate of lead chromate with potassium chromate and a bright yellow precipitate of lead iodide with potassium iodide. Both are standard confirmatory tests for lead ions.
Is Lead Chloride safe for school students?
Lead Chloride is toxic and should be handled only by trained staff or under close supervision, with gloves, goggles and good hand hygiene. Read the MSDS supplied with the 100 g pack before use and dispose of residues as hazardous waste.
What does the Lead Chloride SCI-590/256 pack contain?
Lead Chloride SCI-590/256 is a 100 g pack of analytical reagent grade lead(II) chloride supplied with an MSDS. Glassware and the test reagents used with it are ordered separately from the ScienceLab catalogue.
How long can Lead Chloride be stored?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Keep Lead Chloride sealed, labelled as toxic and locked in the chemical store, away from food and drink.
Can institutions order Lead Chloride in bulk?
Yes. Schools, colleges and dealers can request several 100 g packs of Lead Chloride from Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala; state the quantity and destination on the contact page to receive a quotation.
Send your enquiry for Lead Chloride through the contact page, or add it to the enquiry cart with the chromate, iodide and safety items listed above to receive a combined quotation.
