Lamela
Lamela (Product Code: SCL135/1.15) is a square microscope cover slip, 20 mm x 20 mm, made of clear borosilicate glass. Laid over a specimen on a slide, it keeps solid material pressed flat and shapes a liquid sample into a thin layer of even thickness, so the whole field comes into focus and the objective lens stays clean. Cover slips are essential equipment in any lab that uses a microscope, and this one is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, for institutions looking for a lab consumables supplier in India.

Typical Use
To make a wet mount without trapped air, place the specimen and a drop of liquid on the slide, touch one edge of the cover slip to the drop at an angle, and lower it slowly with a needle so the liquid spreads out ahead of it. The 20 x 20 mm square covers a typical onion peel, leaf section or drop of culture comfortably on a standard slide. Stains can be drawn under the cover slip from one side with a strip of filter paper at the other, which is a handy technique for iodine or methylene blue staining. Schools stocking borosilicate laboratory glassware in India can add these cover slips to the same order as their slides.
Cover slips are thin and break easily, so pick them up by the edges or with fine forceps and keep spares in their pack until needed. Dispose of broken pieces in a glass bin rather than general waste.
