Groups take a sample, work down the flow chart’s questions — is it made of interlocking crystals or separate grains? does water soak in or run off? — and arrive at a rock group or soil type. A few drops of water from a dropper are enough to test permeability, and a hand lens helps students judge texture, so the lesson stays practical rather than relying on pictures.
Because the pack spans three key stages, the same samples can serve simple sorting activities for younger pupils and discussions of how each rock group forms for older students. The plastic containers keep samples organised between lessons, and the Teacher’s Notes give confidence to staff who are not geology specialists. As an earth science kit, it gives a whole class hands-on material at once instead of a single display set at the front of the room.
This rock pack is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Private Limited, which trades as ScienceLab from Ambala, Haryana, and sources geological specimens for school laboratories alongside its own teaching apparatus. Read more on our company profile.
