Calcium (Metallic)

Product Code : SCI-547/237

Calcium (Metallic) (Product Code: SCI-547/237) is elemental calcium metal of analytical reagent grade, used to show how an alkaline earth metal reacts with water and acids in reactivity-series practicals at school and college level. Chemistry teachers choose it because its reaction with cold water is lively yet controllable, and it comes as a 50 g pack with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, as part of its school chemistry lab equipment range.

What Is Calcium Metal Used For?

Dropped into cold water, a small piece of calcium sinks, fizzes steadily as hydrogen is given off and leaves a cloudy suspension of calcium hydroxide. Students can collect the gas in an inverted test tube and confirm it with a lighted splint, then dip indicator paper into the water to show that an alkaline solution has formed. Comparing the result with magnesium ribbon, which barely reacts with cold water, places calcium correctly in the reactivity series.

Calcium also burns with a brick-red flame, which links the metal to flame tests for calcium salts. Use only small pieces, wear eye protection, and keep the metal away from acids and moisture. A tightly closed container in a dry cupboard stops the surface from turning into a dull white crust.

Supplier

ScienceLab is the trading name of Jain Scientific Equipments Private Limited, which supplies Calcium (Metallic) from Ambala, Haryana, to schools, colleges and laboratory dealers. Along with the metal we can quote the indicator paper, test tubes and glass dishes a reactivity lesson needs. Read more about the company on the ScienceLab profile page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Calcium (Metallic) react with water?
Calcium (Metallic) reacts steadily with cold water, releasing hydrogen gas and forming calcium hydroxide, which makes the water cloudy and alkaline. The reaction is brisker than magnesium but far gentler than sodium or potassium, which is why it suits student observation.

What pack size and grade is this calcium metal?
This Calcium (Metallic), code SCI-547/237, is listed as analytical reagent grade in a 50 g pack. It is supplied with an MSDS that sets out the hazards of a water-reactive metal and the storage and disposal steps to follow.

How should calcium metal be stored?
Store Calcium (Metallic) in its tightly sealed container in a cool, dry cupboard away from water, acids and oxidisers. Moist air slowly coats the metal with a white layer, so reseal the pack straight after taking out the pieces you need.

Can students handle Calcium (Metallic)?
Calcium (Metallic) can be used by students under supervision when pieces are small and eye protection is worn. It produces flammable hydrogen and a caustic solution, so keep flames away, use forceps rather than fingers and follow the supplied MSDS.

What is the shelf life of Calcium (Metallic)?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions, so no fixed period is given for Calcium (Metallic). Ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted, and keep the pack sealed against moisture.

Can we order calcium metal for several schools at once?
Yes. Calcium (Metallic) can be ordered in multiples of the 50 g pack for school groups, colleges, dealers and importers across India and international markets. Send quantities and delivery details through our contact page to receive a quotation.
