Typical Use
Set the funnel in a filter flask with a bung that grips its narrow stem, connect the flask to a vacuum source, lay a trimmed filter paper flat across the perforated plate and wet it, then pour the mixture in with the vacuum running. Students use this arrangement to recover crystals after recrystallisation, collect precipitates in gravimetric exercises and dry a washed solid quickly, as the suction pulls air through the filter cake.
Because the funnel is light and will not shatter like ceramic if knocked over, it is well suited to busy pharmacy lab equipment sets and large practical classes. After use, unsnap the two sections so the plate and bowl can be rinsed separately, and autoclave the parts when sterile apparatus is required. Its smaller stem fits flasks and bungs that would be too narrow for a porcelain funnel.
