Ammonium Sulfide (Product Code: SCI-701/309) is an analytical reagent grade sulfide solution used to precipitate metal sulfides during the qualitative analysis of cations in school and college chemistry laboratories. It is packed as 100 ml with its MSDS and gives an ammoniacal source of sulfide ions without running a hydrogen sulfide generator. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, for teachers building a salt analysis kit for school chemistry.

In the classical scheme of cation analysis, sulfide in ammoniacal solution precipitates the zinc, manganese, nickel and cobalt group once the earlier groups have been removed, and ammonium sulfide is a convenient way to supply it. The precipitate colours guide identification: zinc sulfide is white, manganese sulfide is buff to pink, and nickel and cobalt sulfides are black.
Ammonium sulfide solutions slowly turn yellow on standing as polysulfide forms, and yellow ammonium sulfide is used to separate the arsenic, antimony and tin sulfides, which dissolve in it, from copper-group sulfides, which do not. The solution smells strongly of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, so dispense it only in a fume cupboard and keep the bottle tightly stoppered between uses.
ScienceLab, the trading name of Jain Scientific Equipments Private Limited, supplies Ammonium Sulfide from Ambala to school, college and university chemistry departments in 100 ml packs with the MSDS. Qualitative analysis needs a whole family of group reagents, and the company can quote them together for institutions, dealers and importers in India and international markets. The company profile explains more about ScienceLab.

Which cations does Ammonium Sulfide precipitate?
In ammoniacal solution, Ammonium Sulfide SCI-701/309 precipitates the sulfides of zinc (white), manganese (buff to pink), nickel and cobalt (both black) once the earlier analytical groups have been removed. These colours guide students to the confirmatory test for each cation.
Why does Ammonium Sulfide turn yellow?
Ammonium Sulfide solution slowly turns yellow on standing as air oxidises some sulfide to polysulfide. Yellow ammonium sulfide still has uses, such as dissolving arsenic, antimony and tin sulfides, but keeping the SCI-701/309 bottle tightly closed slows the change.
How should Ammonium Sulfide be stored?
Keep Ammonium Sulfide SCI-701/309 tightly stoppered in a cool, ventilated cabinet away from acids, which release hydrogen sulfide from it. Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Can Ammonium Sulfide be used on an open bench?
Ammonium Sulfide releases hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, both irritating and harmful gases, so dispense the SCI-701/309 reagent in a fume cupboard or a strongly ventilated area. Wear goggles and gloves and follow the MSDS supplied with each 100 ml pack.
Who supplies Ammonium Sulfide SCI-701/309?
Ammonium Sulfide SCI-701/309 is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources the reagent and ships it with its MSDS to schools, colleges, universities, dealers and importers in India and international markets.
What should an Ammonium Sulfide enquiry include?
An Ammonium Sulfide enquiry should include the product code SCI-701/309, the number of 100 ml packs, your delivery location and any other group reagents for the analysis scheme. Send it through the contact page or the enquiry cart for a quotation.
Send your Ammonium Sulfide requirement via the ScienceLab contact page or add it to the enquiry cart together with the other group reagents for your salt-analysis practicals.
