What Is Aluminum Oxide Used For?
Aluminium oxide is the textbook example of an amphoteric oxide. Warmed with dilute hydrochloric acid it gradually forms aluminium chloride, and with hot concentrated sodium hydroxide it forms a soluble aluminate, showing that one oxide can react both as a base and as an acid.
