What Is the 2-Inch GI Flange Used For?
Threaded GI pipe and flanged equipment do not join directly. This flange screws onto the threaded end of a 2" GI pipe and turns it into a flanged end that can be bolted, with a gasket, to the matching flange of a valve, pump outlet, meter, tank connection or flanged pipe section. That makes the joint easy to open again for maintenance, which a fully threaded run does not allow.
Because the bolt holes are not drilled, the installer can mark and drill them to match the mating flange exactly, which is useful when equipment from different sources has to be connected. Threading after galvanizing leaves clean threads free of zinc build-up; use a suitable thread sealant when screwing the flange onto the pipe and tighten flange bolts evenly in a cross pattern.
